WELCOME!

We are the Voices of California (aka “VoCal”) and this page is the place for you to learn more about our search for a new Musical Director and to apply should you be interested

BACKGROUND

Voices of California has existed since 2010 and is an a cappella male-only chorus performing songs that are primarily arranged in 4-part harmony in the barbershop style.  Based in the Sacramento area, the chorus has a regular schedule of shows we produce ourselves as well as being a paid participant in performances throughout the community.   We also compete regularly against other choruses to measure our progress and gain input into how we can improve.  We have earned the right to compete in the International Barbershop Chorus Championships five times, at locations throughout North America.

OUR SEARCH

Our current director, Gabe Caretto has led the chorus since its inception but has plans to step down as our front-line director in July 2025 to pursue other life opportunities including some beyond Sacramento.   He has provided plenty of notice to chorus leadership such that we might identify, retain and gracefully transition the chorus he helped build on to its next leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role is open to anyone who feels they can successfully lead the chorus towards the vision we have defined of our future.  The selected candidate will likely have formal training and/or experience in choral directing, in vocal training and exposure to the barbershop art form, but we are also open to candidates who may be strong in one or two of those areas but may be lacking in others.
