We're a little late to be introducing you to the fantastic interim director we've had for weeks now, but we'll keep you all in suspense no longer!
Our fearless leader Gabe Caretto is currently on sabbatical and will be returning to direct us later in July, but we've got just the right person to take his place. Most folks who know our current interim director won't be at all surprised, but for those who don't know this awesome individual, meet Elizabeth Dyer!
Elizabeth Dyer is a wife and mother of 2 young boys, and grew up in El Dorado Hills, CA. She was first introduced to Barbershop Harmony by the Placerville Gold Rush Chorus in a Middle School assembly in 2002, and from then on was determined to immerse herself in the world of Barbershop music! In High School, she became known as “the-girl-who-would-not-stop-asking-to-go-to-Harmony-Camp” (which was for boys only), and since attending her 1st Barbershop International Convention in 2007, she’s been an avid and studious Barbershopper!
She started singing in Sweet Adeline Quartets in High School, competing at Regional & International competitions for young women, eventually placing 2nd Internationally with her college quartet “Heavenly”. Her other more notable quartets were “Generation Gap”, and “Rogue”, who competed at the Sweet Adeline International convention in Hawaii in 2013.
Elizabeth has her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education & Vocal Performance from the California State University of Sacramento. She has sung in many ensembles, but since graduating from college in 2012, she had the pleasure of Directing the very chorus who introduced her to Barbershop, helping them to place higher than they had in several years. She also sang and competed with Dr. Greg Lyne in the Pride of Pacific Chorus, and when she lived in Murrieta, CA in the fall of 2009, she spent as much spare time as she could observing directors Pam Pieson, Justin Miller, and Mark Hale with the International Gold Medal choruses Harborlites, Westminster & the Masters of Harmony.
She taught private Voice & Piano and Directed a small ensemble at Martucci Music in Sacramento for about 2 years before becoming a full-time, at-home caretaker & teacher-of-littles.
She is thrilled to be honored & trusted with this Interim Director position for the Voices of California, and very much looks forward to these next 6 months!
How cool is that? We can't wait to perform under Elizabeth's direction for these next six months, including our first contest appearance of the year at the NE/NW Divisional Convention in Davis, CA in April! We wish Gabe and his wife Cindy the best during Gabe's sabbatical, particularly on their trip to Scotland! We'll see you all in Davis and hopefully even sooner than that!
Congratulations to Elizabeth Dyer on becoming Interim Director of Voices of California!
